About the Initiative.
Something is beginning in Thunder Bay on June 27, 2026.

For 50 consecutive days, Vimal Thomas, a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist in Thunder Bay, will live and publicly document the BelMind Protocol on social media.
The journey culminates in the Kakabeka Falls Half Marathon on August 16, 2026, followed by a free, live, one-hour public keynote on August 17: The Thunder Bay Community Mental Health Keynote.
A formal request has been submitted to the City of Thunder Bay to have August 17 proclaimed Community Mental Health Day.
This is not a campaign. It is a demonstration. A demonstration that mental health is not reserved for moments of crisis. That it is something every person in this community can tend to, every single day, with intention and with purpose.

On August 17, one honest hour together about what mental health really means and what it can look like in your life.

Mission

To inspire individuals and the community to see mental health as a lifestyle, not merely a response to crisis, and to discover the beauty within.
This initiative seeks to advance the understanding that mental health is not reserved for moments of crisis, but is an essential part of everyday life. Through education, reflection, and community engagement, we aim to inspire individuals and the community as a whole toward a fuller, more intentional, and more meaningful experience of living. This is not simply about reducing stigma. It is about cultivating awareness, strengthening wellbeing, and inviting people to discover the beauty within themselves and one another.
BelMind Therapeia
Vision

A community mobilized to move beyond surviving and toward thriving, where mental health, physical health, and performance are cared for through lifestyle.
The BelMind Protocol
The BelMind Protocol is not clinical advice. It is a framework drawn from evidence-based research across movement science, sleep medicine, nutritional psychiatry, environmental psychology, contemplative science and meditation research, and the science of human connection, brought together into seven daily practices that support overall wellbeing.
You do not have to run a half marathon to be part of this!
Pick one pillar. Just one. Step outside for some morning light. Go for a ten minute walk. Call someone you have been meaning to call. Cook something that actually nourishes you. Sit quietly for five minutes before bed.
That is it. That is enough. That is the BelMind Protocol working!
Do one thing with us. Or a few. Or all seven for the full 50 days. This journey has room for everyone, exactly where they are.
Follow along on Instagram and Facebook and share what you are doing. Let Thunder Bay see what it looks like when a city decides to show up for itself.

About Vimal Thomas
Before I was a therapist, I was a kid on a mat. I started Taekwondo at four years old, and what that practice gave me was not just discipline or a strong body. It gave me the earliest understanding I would ever have of the connection between mind and body. That the way you breathe changes the way you think. That stillness is not the absence of power. It is where power begins.
At fifteen, I entered a monastery. I stayed for seven years. What I found there was silence, solitude, and a way of living that asked you to pay attention to everything. Not to escape life, but to meet it more fully. Those years shaped how I see suffering, how I sit with it, and why I do not rush people through it.
I have also loved poetry for as long as I can remember. Therapy, strangely, is where I have encountered some of the most complex and beautiful poetry I have ever read. There is something in that room, when a person finds the words for what they have been carrying, or when they feel understood even without words, that is closer to poetry than anything else I know.
All of this, the mat, the monastery, the poems, and the years sitting with people in their hardest moments, brought me here. To Thunder Bay. To BelMind Therapeia. And to a belief I keep coming back to: that there is beauty already living inside this community, and it deserves to be provoked, gently and publicly. Discover the Beauty Within is not a clinical programme. It is a collection of simple, evidence-informed lifestyle practices that anyone can begin, lived openly, together, as a starting point for something this city has always been capable of.
